Hi there! Your ol' pal Benny decided to give you a few
weeks to adjust to the back-to-school blues before tossing another
book at you. Here comes a review, ready or not!
This week's recommendation is actually geared for younger
kids, but hey - if you have a younger brother or sister, here's
a perfect excuse to revisit your preschool days. Take it from me...just point to the shapes and colors,
and pretend you're bored. Act like you don't like the locomotive
shape of this book, too. Act like those kazillion flaps don't
interest you in the least.
Animal Train
A Lift-the-Flap Concept Book by Jane Yolen / Illustrated by Doug
Cushman
Little Simon, 2002
Baby - Preschool
Washable board book, die-cut in the shape of a locomotive.
All aboard! A special train is pulling into the station,
with Mrs. Crane at the controls. Join the gregarious group of
animal employees waiting to serve you. Hand your ticket to Conductor
Cricket, and let the fun begin!
Look! There's Porter Seal, balancing luggage in all shapes
and sizes--on his nose! Open the flaps and peek inside each piece
of luggage. Hmmmm...that blue circle suitcase sure does smell
like pizza.
Learn colors, numbers, opposites, shapes, and more. When
you need a break, slip into the dining car, where you'll discover
a variety of treats hidden behind tabletop flaps. (Be sure to look for the wormy character. You'll find
him lounging on the floor, with a bib tied around his neck. Lift
the flap. What is he having for dinner?)
Animal Train is one of most fun concept books to hit
the shelves in a long time. Cushman's clever illustrations complement
Yolen's playful, rhyming text perfectly. Forget flying or car-tripping.
Join the lively animals on their railroad tour for a trip of
a lifetime!

Kaboose at Funschool.com, where you'll find fun activities
