FINN HAUGLI Finn Haugli is the Director of The Arctic-alpine Botanic Garden in Tromsø Norway: the worlds northernmost botanic garden. Tromsø's location at just about 70* North, corresponds to the north shore of Alaska. The presence of the Gulf Stream does compensate quite extensively for this extreme location. There are a number of wonderful plants there; an outstanding Meconopsis collection, Rhododendron collection, Primula collection and Saxifraga collection as well as other Himalayan plants. Dr. Haugli got his Ph.D. in Molecular genetics at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and has been a professor in molecular genetics and cell biology at the University of Tromsø since it started in 1972. He became the director of the Arctic-alpine Botanic Garden at it's inception in 1998. He has lived in Canada and the US a total of 9 years and speaks fluent English.
