As part of my interest in women's art, I began studying Icon painting in the middle 90's.  I wanted to work with images of mothers and the holy mother, Mary, drew me to it.  While I was learning about Icons, I came across the painted versions of St. George.  This one in particular drew me to it.  The felt is based on a 13th C. Georgian Icon.  St. George is the patron saint of the Republic of Georgia, as well as England and Ethiopia.  This is the only felt I made, the others were all painted.
