Director for USA Canoe/Kayak.  An announcement of the position and a job
description follow below.  Your help in circulating this, as well as in
identifying possible candidates and making them aware of this opportunity,
would be very much appreciated.

USA Canoe Kayak supports all canoe and kayak racing in the United States,
including the Olympic sports of whitewater slalom and flatwater sprint, and all
other non-Olympic canoe/kayak disciplines. This includes programs for the
development of athletes, coaches and officials, management of teams and
training camps including those at the USOC Training Centers, organization of
national and international competitions and developing the necessary funding of
the athletes, office and supporting activities.

The Executive Director position is directly responsible to the Board of
Directors and heads a national headquarters staff and the various organizations
and committees necessary for the conduct of the sport. Key external relations
are with the United States Olympic Committee, the International Canoe
Federation and the sponsors who are primary in funding USACK. This position
requires experience in all aspect of business leadership, management and
fundraising. Much of the planning and execution of USACK programs is
accomplished through committees of volunteers. The ability to work effectively
with and leverage the strength of these groups is essential. Candidates should
have demonstrated success in positions requiring a high level of interpersonal
skills, management of significant budgets and implementation of innovative
funds development programs. Additionally the Executive Director will be
responsible for developing the membership base.

The USACK office is located in Lake Placid, New York. The USACK Board of
Directors is currently evaluating the costs and benefits of relocating the
office. Candidates must be willing to relocate if necessary. Base compensation
is expected to be in the $50-60,000 range, with excellent benefits. The
compensation package will include performance-based incentives that could
increase total compensation to $90,000.

I. POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director position is directly responsible to the Board of
Directors and heads a national headquarters staff and the various organizations
and committees necessary for the conduct of the sport. Key external relations
are with the United States Olympic Committee, the International Canoe
Federation and the sponsors who are primary in funding USACK.

be responsible for developing the membership base, managing the budget and

II. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

A.Provide Leadership and Integrity to USACK

B.Maintain USOC Relations

  * a.Work with Sport Partnership Team to effectively manage relationship
  * b.Provide reports to USOC as necessary
  * c.Attend board meetings, executive director conferences and meetings as
    necessary.

C. Facilitate relationship with the International Canoe Federation (ICF).

D.Maintain Effective Communications with Key Constituencies

  * a.USACK Board of Directors
  * b.U.S. Olympic Committee
  * c.USACK Corporate Family (sponsors, suppliers, licensees, joint marketing
    partners)
  * d.Committees
  * e.Staff
  * f.Membership

E.Prepare and Recommend Budget

  * a.Work with treasurer and finance manager to prepare annual budget
  * b.Regularly monitor budget
  * c.Review budget and recommend necessary adjustments
  * d.Ensure budget is submitted to Board of Directors in a timely manner for
    their approval

F.Develop Revenue Sources

  * a.Work with marketing director to identify potential sponsors
  * b.Maintain regular contact with current sponsors
  * c.Work with USOC on developing relationships with joint marketing sponsors
  * d.Work with marketing firms to develop potential sponsors
  * e.Identify potential fundraising opportunities
  * f.Develop diverse funding base

G.Supervise Staff

  * a.Hire and assign staff positions
  * b.Monitor performance
  * c.Maintain optimal organizational structure
  * d.Maintain proper working conditions
      + 1. Ensure implementation of proper technological assistance for staff
      + 2. Develop delegation system of administrative duties to appropriate
        staff
      + 3. Provide clear job descriptions to staff

H.Build Membership Base

  * a.Identify potential ways to increase membership
  * b.Monitor and maintain membership benefits
  * c.Work with member clubs to identify concerns and increase membership
  * d.Listen to membership concerns and provide remedies as necessary
