The Kingfisher Book of Funny Poems
Selected by Roger McGough
Illustrated with wacky pictures by Caroline Holden
Kingfisher 2002
ISBN:

Originally published in Great Britain in 1986, this collection of 200+ poems was first released under a different title. It now appears in the U.S. as The Kingfisher Book of Funny Poems, edited by Roger McGough, illus. by Caroline Holden.

Poets include Roger McGough himself, and poets such as Emily Dickinson, Ogden Nash, Jack Prelutsky, Lewis Carroll, Bruce Lansky, and Carol Ann Duffy.

You'll roar at the antics of funny characters like Kenneth ("who was too fond of bubble-gum and met an untimely end), or Aunt Ermintrude, who "was determined to swim across the Channel." Follow the Mouse Brigade into Cat Valley, or join Colonel Fazackerley in his spooky old castle.

Illustrator Caroline Holden has done a remarkable job of adding wry humor at just the right moment. One of my favorites involves an aunt from Yucatan who bought a python for a pet. Then there's Uncle Laurie, who can't stop saying he's sorry, or "Conversation on a Garden Wall," about two cats sharing a conversation on a sunny day.

There's something for everyone in The Kingfisher book of Funny poems!
