Fisher-Price Musical Fingerpaint
Ages 9 months+

Touted as a toy for nine months and above, it may surprise parents when their three-year-old plops down and uses it as a pint-sized easel. The surface ("painting" area) is made of a soft plastic, filled with gel. Drag a finger across it, and a rainbow of color appears. Not only that; there's music!

Touch the surface (or sit on it, as was the case with my three-year-old tester) and strike up the band. Stop touching it and music automatically stops. Fisher-Price has come up with a sensory-rich activity that provides a creative outlet. It strengthen's baby's sense of touch, and encourages listening and anticipating the music. Eye-hand coordination gets a workout, too, as babies & toddlers grasp the art tools. Gross motor skills are enhanced, too, through stroking the surface to create a picture. Pictures can be erased by sliding the roller bar until a clean surface emerges.

This toy is portable - a plus for parents on the go. It can be used flat or propped up. Requires three AA batteries.
