- If anyone tells you infant playmats are alike, here's a product
that will dispute their theory. Discovery Circle is a reversible
36" circle with raised edges (like a small wading pool),
making this a visual delight that literally surrounds Baby.

- Silkscreened on 100% cotton, Discovery Circle uses high-contrast
colors and patterns that appeal to the youngest of infants. One
side of this plushly padded playmat is designed with concentric
circles. The outer ring is a parade of colored letters and numbers
against a black background. Moving toward the center are rings
of polka dots and checkerboard patterns. In the center of the
mat lies a plush, raised red heart, purposely placed there to
provide a surprise change in texture from the overall smooth
cotton of the rest of the mat.

- Watch Baby's reaction as he rolls against the heart, causing
it to squeak. (Studies have shown that even a newborn will notice
and compare the different sensations and textures of his surroundings.)
And every once in a while, according to the manufacturer, "he'll
turn and accidentally cause a squeak out of the heart. Through
repetitive experimentation over time,the little explorer will
learn that he can deliberatel cause the heart to squeak by pushing."

- A rectangular mirror (framed in bright red fabric) hangs
on the side wall, inviting baby to study its shine. As baby grows--sometime
around four months, he'll begin to notice a baby peeking back
at him! All around the raised edges of the playmat are generous
squares of yellow, red, and green, interspersed with black and
white in a bullseye, starred, and checkerboard pattern.

- Flip the mat over, plump up the sides, and you'll have a
totally different experience for the infant who is ready to explore
sounds, textures, and activities. Baby will learn to hear the
difference between sounds, including rattles, squeaks, and crinkles.
This side of the playmat steps away from the highly contrasted
patterns and purposeful colors of the other side, into a bright,
cheerful land of Mama Goose and friends. In the center, a royal
blue circle and golden stars form a backdrop for red-kerchiefed
Mama Goose, who is flying children across a night sky. Other
scenes decorate the raised, padded sides, including:
- Rock-a-Bye Baby, who tucks into a little crib. It's
removable, attached by a sturdy ribbon.
- Hickory Dickory Dock with movable hands and a long-tailed
mouse.
- Humpty Dumpty rattles as you give him a boost up on
the wall and tuck him inside a little pocket.
- Three little kittens have one pair of mittens between
them. Baby decides which kittens get to wear the removable pair.
- Lift a flap to help Little Bo Peep find her lost sheep.
Twelve colorful scenes in all!
- Geared for ages newborn to 30 months, Discovery Circle is
designed for the long haul, unlike other toys that enjoy several
months or perhaps a year of usefulness. Toddlers who will love
learning the words and songs to classic will love sitting in
the center of the colorful play area to sing or recite Mother
Goose rhymes. It's fun to take a nap in there, too, or invite
dolls and stuffed animal friends inside for a look around. Opportunities
abound for repetitive activity and language development. In addition,
your baby and toddler will love the consistency of having the
same play area on a long-term basis, creating a fun, comfortable
and familiar surrounding for learning.
The Discovery Circle is hand washable. Line dry. As an added
bonus, it comes with a handy carry bag, silkscreened in a bold
black print against white. Fold and stuff the playmat inside
for on-the-go activities like a visit to Grandma's house. A gentle
tug of the shoulder strap closes the drawstring opening to create
a dust-free storage bag.
