10/4/02 - Update.. betcha it's Bobby...

Okay, to say I've been on a little Dylan kick lately would be bucking for Understatement Of The Year.  Very much digging Bobby lately.  Did this tonight.  I've got a few more Dylan tunes I want to knock out, maybe I'll get to them this month.

Seven Curses

Technical - Guitar recorded with the Audio Technica Pro 7a in the soundhole.  Direct into the VS880 (I was getting a really nasty hum thru the dbx 286a... piece of shit).  Vocals on the AT C1000s - this is a great vocal mic.  Run thru at ART Tube Pre and the RNC compressor.  Minimal effects on the VS880.  Dumped to PC thru the SPDIF link and then did a little EQ and verb in SoundForge.  Whole think took less than 2 hours.

4/15/02 - Holy Crap!  Another Update!  Make that a DOUBLE!

Jump back people!  Two new recordings!  What the hell is going on here?  Again, after some prodding from annoying friends, here are two nuggets - not originals, but good songs..

Pancho and Lefty

Tangled up in Blue

Notes - Pancho and Lefty is done on one microphone - an Audio-Technica Pro 45 hanging mic... I actually got this mic by mistake, but it worked nicely.  It's one of those mini-mics you hang to record a choir or something.  I just used it to record me playing and singing simultaneously.  Tangled up in Blue is two mic - the Pro45 and the Audio-Technica Pro7A lavalier.  Used the 45 for vocals, and the 7A has a special fixture to clip it to your soundhole, so it's getting the guitar.  This is pretty sweet... it may be an alternative to those in-soundhole pickups they sell for acoustic guitars.. I have yet to hear one of those I really like.  This could do the job nicely, and make it so I can play my smelly guitar in public some time.  We'll see.

I dig Pancho and Lefty.  I think it came out nicely.

3/9/02

Again, it's been far too long between updates, but here's something - Quinn, you asked for this.

It needs a lead guitar.  Harold?  Can you gimmie a quick track?  Thanks man. This is how we used to do it, with the 3 double long measures of intro...  Goes from 80 bpm to 100.

This is my first real MIDI bass and drums... I think it sounds okay.

*note - the "rock" eq setting on WINAMP makes this sound pretty good.

***The latest - I just picked up an ART Tube MP, using it with the RNC compressor.  I like it.

Here's a new song, "Smelly Guitar".  It's amusing.  The bass work is.. well.. I'm not a bass player, and

I'm too lazy to go back and fix it.  So there.  Let me know what you think:  losguys@attbi.com

Here's a version of "Mr. Soul" I did in the living room.  1.8megs, about 2:40 in length.  Neil makes for a great sound check.

Live take- Acoustic Git (mic and line), Vocals

Overdub with electric (first take-it ain't special, but it's kinda sweet)

Here's a version of "My Back Pages".  4 minutes or so, under 2 megs.  More living room stuff, my first keyboard/midi stuff (it's rEEEEEl subtle.. but it's in there).   I'm slowly learning my VS880.  Sloooowly.

Live take- Acoustic Git (mic and line), Vocals

Overdub with bass and keyboard.  Encoded MP3 at 64kb.. seems to work well.

As I add stuff of my own, I'll post it here.. see any resemblance?
