Are you Confused? Here's how to listen to the music play!

Hardware

These days it is not too hard to find a cheap box with plenty of pizazz and spark. You must have a sound card and a set of speakers, headphones, or some other audio output device. Your CPU must be fast enough to decode MP3 on-the-fly and still keep up with basic system chores like disk/net IO, etc. a P-133 or better should be plenty. Got a G3?? Don't even worry about it!

Software

MacIntosh users:Get MacAmp.

• WinAmp and MacAmp - awesome MP3 players
• Cool96 Wave Editor - useful for A/D sampling, if you want to try this at home
• mpegEnc_v007.zip - SoloH MP3 encoder for winX from ISO source (thanx willard!)

Compression using MPEG Layer 3 format necessary results in some slight signal degradation, but it is minimal and can be tolerated. Some Dead tapes sound better cranked up and heard in another room, anyhow.
