The Corvallis Environmental Center seeks part-time

The Corvallis Environmental Center is a small non-profit
organization that was created in 1994 to focus on education and technical
assistance programs that promote sustainability. The CEC supports three
core programs (the Youth Garden Project, Avery House Nature Center, and
the "Get SMART" Resource Efficiency Program), an extensive outreach
effort, and additional fledgling programs.
The CEC seeks a highly motivated administrator to direct
operations and manage finances.
Responsibilities include oversight and assistance of core
programs, representing the CEC at community forums, managing employees,
interfacing with the Board of Directors, fundraising, and managing communications
with CEC stakeholders. The Director reports to the CEC Board of Directors.
Qualifications include strong communication, relationship-building,
listening, and interpersonal skills; the ability to work well both independently
and collaboratively and to balance innovation and vision with focus on
detail and follow-through.
0.5FTE, $14/hour, hours are flexible

Avery House Nature Center seeks
part-time Program Instructor

The Avery House Nature Center is a program of the Corvallis
Environmental Center. A hub of nature education, the Nature Center is
located in Avery Park. AHNC classes include pre-school play programs,
summer camps, adult workshops, and nature hikes, among other activities.
The CEC seeks a Program Instructor to lead year-round programs.
Responsibilities include teaching or assisting with all
AHNC classes, facilitating volunteers, developing and recording curriculum,
and assisting AHNC Program Director as needed.
Qualifications include experience working with children,
ability to work independently, a background in environmental issues or
education, and excellent communication skills.
0.5FTE, $12/hour, hours dependent on AHNC class schedule

Program Instructor Position Detail
Program Instruction:
-Teach and plan a Nature Club at Lincoln Elementary school as well as
Friday Electives.
-Lead instruction for Nature Camps (With help from other staff)
-Assist in planning and creating new programs that meet School benchmarks
and standards
-Assist with preschool programs (create Parent Directory, and NaturePlay
area - Grant dependent)
-Lead Instruction for Watershed adventure Camp
-Lead instruction for Willamette Eco-Expedition Camp ages 8-12 last week
of summer vacation.
-Instruction for spring school field trip programs as well as some pre
and post classroom visits
-Instruction for other programs such as Globetrotters summer camps
-Lead Instruction for in-service programs (3 or 4 a year)
-Clean up supplies after programs
-Lead and create Birthday Party programs
Registration
-Assist in keeping track of registration and enrollment for programs
-Facilitate evaluation of programs by registrants
Outreach
-Work with volunteers and staff on planning activities for:
--daVanci Days
--Kids day for Conservation
--Earthfaire
--Other events
Volunteers
-Manage volunteers and/or nstruct Volunteer Coordinator (when we have
one)
-Assist with finding, training, and coordinating Volunteers
-Work with compost site Volunteer to maintain Compost demo
-Work with schools to find High School volunteer / interns
Curriculum
- Assist with developing new curriculum
-Typing and organizing curriculum for future use
Educational Exhibits
-Assist in cleaning animal cages and buying pet food
-Create new exhibits for events or camps
Assisting Program Director
-Fill in for Program Director when on leave or Vacation
-Assist Director when needed
-May be asked to assist with marketing, adult programs, meetings, house
cleaning, filing, etc
-Assist in reviewing and editing reports and grants
Optional and job expanding options
-Grant pursuit or assisting with grants.
-Attend trainings (Project Learning Tree or Environment Education Association
of Oregon)
Hours will vary with the seasons, starting at 15-20 hours/week,
increasing in summer
Must be available for all prescheduled programs (see AHNC schedule)
