Tom's Solo Disc

  There are precious few songwriters these days but there's a plethera of "song-maker-uppers" around. Most of these couldn't write a note, much less a whole song. While I can write music, I rarely do so unless I've made up a song that I, and maybe a few others, like well enough to justify such an effort.
The first song I made up was during the summer of my 15th year. It still hasn't been written although I remember hearing it sung by someone I didn't really know as I passed him on the stairs of my high school. My folk group had sung it in a school variety show the previous weekend. The song wasn't great but it felt good to have impacted someone with my music. From that experience I learned the meaning of building a "hook" into your song, those few words and notes that catch listeners the first time they hear it.
We've all been hooked by hundreds of songs. I hope it happens to you again as you hear, probably for the first time, some of the songs I've made up over the last few decades.
