Implementation of the Department of Peace at the Federal level will provide local funding and program coordination for nonviolent conflict resolution in our homes, schools, treatment programs, prisons, police, gangs, and ethnic groups. In addition, as our military forces become skilled in peacebuilding methodologies and the threat of nuclear weapons is reduced, our national budget can be reclaimed for humanitarian purposes.
The Department of Peace has the potential of replacing our culture of violence, which is incredibly expensive to repair ($300 billion per year, according to World Health Organization), with a culture of nonviolence. For an initial investment of only one percent of our national budget, we can begin to turn the tide. The military would begin to experience fewer losses in battle, and the international image of America could be repaired.
| David Hazen, Oregon State Coordinator, says: "Hi! I'd like to just tell you that we all can be leaders in owning the result, the desired value of peace, in the way that we spend our time and our money, from one day to the next, because that has a ripple effect that extends to the highest levels of government, and when the people lead, the leaders will follow. Thank you." |
Our Northwest team's primary mission is to deliver your desire for peace directly to Congress in the most effective way. Our secondary mission is to build the grassroots support community that will amplify our voice in Washington and make this legislation's passage inevitable. I invite you to see the current list of the legislation's co-sponsors.
Your donation will be used for the next regional conference, travel to the national conference, a regional website, cash prizes for local violence-prevention programs, telephone, media, office supplies, and to assist the national campaign of The Peace Alliance.
