Uneasy Sleep

Valerie Brown

With Uneasy Sleep singer/songwriter Valerie Brown unleashes twenty years of well crafted, intelligently written tunes that draw from many styles, including jazz, rock, R & B, and folk. This combined with producer/drummer Dave Storrs' distinctive rhythmic style yields twelve songs with a wide variety of mood and intent. The Louie stable of accomplished players provides tremendous ensemble playing and textures that most singer/songwriters never experience. Like all of the Louie releases, Uneasy Sleep is not industry standard issue. Brown began her career in the early 70's and played in two popular Portland groups, Moonstone and Betty Romaine. After a partially successful career change into freelance writing, Storrs recruited her to perform on Ten Stories, of which the Eugene Register-Guard said, "The highlight is Soon Enough, which shows off vocalist Valerie Brown's vibrant voice." Uneasy Sleep brings Brown full circle.

"...this is a recording that reaches lyrically and musically and in that stretch surprises and pleasures reside."   The Oregonian
