Independence Compass Rose Layout

Compass Rose Layout
Having the major points of the rose marked by survey made the layout much easier. It was simply a matter of "connect the dots" and "snap" with the kind of chalk-powdered string line that carpenters use. In case of rain, we reinforced the snap lines with wax lumber crayon (sometimes called keel) and a straight-edge. Wood lathe or longer pieces of batting or other lightweight lumber make ideal edging tools. Left to right: Louise Parsons, Joey Connell, and Marilyn Husser.
