Independence Compass Rose Layout
Having the major points of the rose marked by survey made the layout much
easier. It was simply a matter of "connect the dots" and
"snap" with the kind of chalk-powdered string line that carpenters
use. In case of rain, we reinforced the snap lines with wax lumber crayon
(sometimes called keel) and a straight-edge. Wood lathe or longer pieces of
batting or other lightweight lumber make ideal edging tools. Left to right:
