Western Cascades Wildflowers and Critters: Gentians, Pika, Penstemon, and a
Bear
All photos on this page by Tanya Harvey
Gentiana calycosa blooms in late summer.
Shy and quick, the Pika has a distinctive squeal. They are sometimes called
Rock Rabbits and have all the appeal of bunnies.
Black bears are also shy and reluctant to show themselves. They are a rare
sight and best quietly left undisturbed, after a quick and precious photo.
Penstemon rupicola on Mt. June. 2002 was a banner year for bloom.
