Page Eleven: More Western Cascades Wildflowers and Critters: Gentians, Pika, Penstemon, and a Bear
All photos on this page by Tanya Harvey

Gentian
Gentiana calycosa blooms in late summer.

Pika
Shy and quick, the Pika has a distinctive squeal. They are sometimes called Rock Rabbits and have all the appeal of bunnies.

Bear
Black bears are also shy and reluctant to show themselves. They are a rare sight and best quietly left undisturbed, after a quick and precious photo.

Penstemon rupicola
Penstemon rupicola on Mt. June. 2002 was a banner year for bloom.
