Art Gallery 1 Older Pastels
by Louise Parsons
Just a bit of background.... I have been doing drawing and printmaking since childhood. My formal training has included four years of classes and study with Hallas Kenyon of Swarthmore, PA, US during my high school years --and in more recent years --art classes at Oregon State University that focused on printmaking studio. My favorite subjects are from earth sciences and astronomy. I also enjoy doing quick sketches of plants to illustrate the Emerald Chapter News and most recently, a bit of aviation art. Because I am now a private pilot, I also aspire to become an artist in the sky. No, you can't do much drawing or sketching while piloting a C-172, but even in an instant here and there, you can take-in a lot of spectacular and inspiring scenery! In 2003, I have started a Rock and Woodland Garden Editor's Clipart Page to share my little sketches of flowers in my garden and in the wild.
The challenge of "unforgiving" media such as woodburning,
pen-and-ink, scratchboard, and all forms of printmaking are especially
satisfying. Some artists eschew process, but I am very involved with both
process and technique.
I don't have any profound statement to make or message to portray. I just enjoy
my work, whatever it might be!
