Garden Pictures, April and May 2007
Right front bed.
This is an old picture looking towards the street. We lost the cedars in a storm because they had been topped and weakened. Except for the very tough fuchsia and some very mature ferns, the other plants were moved into shade.
Truly miniature Hosta 'Cat's Eyes'.
Lewisia hybrid grown from seed from orange parents.
Back porch with troughs and seed pots. The lawn is long gone, as I'd rather put the energy into flowers!
Looking west at the back porch. Small rock garden is made from recycled broken concrete. An old, heavy, spun poly carpet underneath is another recycle and a frugal replacement for "geofabric". It keeps worms from bringing up the rich Willamette silt loam and rocks from sinking into the soil over time. Succulents and penstemon grow in a scree mixture of pumice and compost.
Semps and sedums in the pumice bed.
My current project.....
......is restoring the east portion of an old sunken garden that, after several decades, had become completely buried in rich, loamy, soil. This is my meditation garden and sanctuary, dedicated to the memory of our furry friends, both wild and domestic.
